Auf Wiedersehen 2017

Happy New Year! I'm so looking forward to the next 12 months - I have lots of exciting things to look forward to and cannot wait! The end of 2017 was lovely - I enjoyed a Christmas market weekend to Dusseldorf which was hampered by the bad weather, a lovely Christmas Day spent with my family and a New Year's Day with my brother upon his return from Australia.
Our trip was wonderful; Dusseldorf is a brilliant place. Lots of nice places to eat, a few nice drinking holes and some gorgeous sights. The Christmas markets were sprawled across the centre, there were seven markets altogether so it left us very spoilt for choice. There were carousels a plenty, pretzel and crepe stalls with some weird and wonderful flavours and some really beautifully hand crafted ornaments - mainly wooden. I went to my first aquazoo; an aquarium and and zoo all in one place and my husband went on a Ferris wheel for the first time. I even managed a run in the snow which was fantastic! Despite the freezing and snowy conditions, I loved Dusseldorf for really igniting my Christmas spirit. Once we arrived back home - 48 hours after we were supposed to thanks to bad weather, BA, London Heathrow airport and cancelled flights, I felt ready to decorate my house and actually start my Christmas shopping.
Now that the craziness of Christmas and New Year have gone, I feel ready to start the next chapter of my life. 2017 has been life changing for me - I became a wife, a full time employee as opposed to part time and self employed, I went glamping, completed my fourth marathon and visited some really beautiful places. Life changing isn't always good though - I experienced my first ever flight cancellation, which is never good with a toddler in tow and I lost my Dad to the big C in September. I have written about this already - see Life is precious...treasure every moment. I know this year will be better, sure there will be some up's and down's but that is life. When reflecting on 2017 as a whole, the good outweighs the bad. As my husband always says, not too high with the highs, not too low with the lows. January is already shaping up to be brilliant - I have the Steel City Derby next Friday, some time with my brother and our friends to revel in a possible double victory over Sheffield Wednesday our first season back in the Championship, a tasty meal out down in London with family and a trip to the theatre with my husband. I've included some photos which show how great the end of the year was for me. Happy New Year one and all! I included the Sheffield United crest as it was possibly one of the most thoughtful Christmas present ever. A tour of Bramall Lane from my husband and it brought back all that magic you feel when you are a kid going to your first football game. Marvellous stuff.
