Weymouth...the perfect honeymoon destination!
When choosing our honeymoon destination, we wanted somewhere that was child friendly & dog friendly. And more importantly, somewhere that we hadn't been before as a family. We settled on Weymouth in Dorset, I'd heard it was family friendly, dog friendly & we found a perfect cottage - just outside Weymouth nearby a pub & no wi-fi, meaning we weren't going to be disturbed for an entire week! Such bliss!
Weymouth still retains a charm of an old fashioned seaside resort. The long beach stretches for miles and further south towards Portland, you get the glorious landmark that is Chesil Beach. As soon as we'd arrived, we set about getting some food in our cottage & a fish supper. We'd been working towards sitting down - all 4 of us - having fish & chips after a long drive down from Cambridge. Although the chippy I found was a little out of town, it was simply delicious & cooked everything from fresh. There was an Asda not far from the chippy so I got some supplies and before I know it, we'd got Megan to bed, we'd allowed Baxter to stretch his legs and my new husband was settled in an armchair snoring away and I was watching Forrest Gump.
I love exploring new places and Weymouth was no exception. We had a day trip to Dorchester which is a gorgeous quaint market town and is definitely worth a trip. After taking Megan to the teddy bear museum, we had lunch before heading to the local leisure centre for a splash around. We explored Weymouth itself for the rest of the week - highlights included an afternoon tea at Upwey Wishing Well, an evening meal overlooking Weymouth beach at Al Molo restaurant, a wander around Weymouth high street, a dessert date, a trip to a soft play centre and a final evening meal at The Crab House Cafe which had a thoroughly deserved reputation for being an awesome place to eat.
More than anything, I felt perfectly relaxed during our honeymoon. No alarms were set and our rules were relaxed. One particular morning, Dan and Megan went to the beach to walk Baxter in their pyjamas and they absolutely loved it. I got to have a couple of 5K runs around Chickerell - running parallel to Chesil Beach was breathtaking. When it was time to go home, I felt ready to come home to start the daily routine once more and to move onto the next chapter of my life.
I've chosen some of my favourite snaps from our honeymoon...and the best one at the end is from when we arrived home and found my Mum & sister in law had decorated our house beautifully!
